Conversation group

The MexLat Society hosts the Conversation group, which is a social activity aimed to make friends and links between English and Spanish speakers. This is an excellent opportunity for all those who want to know more about English and Latin American cultures, make friends and practise their English and Spanish as well.

The Conversation group will be meeting every Thursday at 6pm at the Interval (Students’ Union).

Conforming a new Commitee

Dear Society members.

We want to inform you that the Mexican and Latin American Society will be holding elections soon. We are convening members for conforming a new Committee that will take upon the next period (May 2011 to April 2012).

The Mexican and Latin American Society has a long-standing tradition within the University of Sheffield. During this past year the Society has lead important events, including the Latin-America’s bicentennial Independence celebrations, the Day of the Death altar creation, as well as the Christmas Posada party. Offering weekly activities like the conversation group, the folk dance group and the children group, our society has provided diverse activities to all the members.

However, the activities have not only included significant days’ celebrations, but have also consisted in participating at the Student Union events such as the Intro Week, the World’s Food Festival Competition, the International Cultural Evening and the new International Language Festival.

In addition, our Society works in coordination with other Mexican Societies in UK (MexSocUK), by attending to the Annual Symposiums of Mexican Students and Studies and by keeping record of all internal documents, as well as elaborating formal documents regarding the scholarship situation of CONACYT students.

Bearing this in mind, it is important to follow up the tradition and the representation of the Latin-American culture and traditions.

We are starting to promote the registration of new nominations for this year new Committee. We encourage any interested member to get involved in the elections. We are receiving any suggestions, nominations or proposals. Remember that you do not need any experience and individual and/or group nominations are welcome!

Best wishes,

2010-2011 Committee.
